A.G. Zimmerman and Legal Secretary Jennie Nelson

Attorney Albert G. Zimmerman in his Madison law office, dictating a letter to secretary Jennie Nelson. Until 1894 Zimmerman was the law partner of Robert M. La Follette, Sr., in the firm Harper, Roe, La Follette, & Zimmerman. The partnership dissolved to allow La Follette to pursue his political career. At that time La Follette, Roe, and Zimmerman each moved to separate, but adjoining offices on the second floor of the Fairchild Block, 29 East Main Street. Jennie Nelson, who identied herself as a general secretary in the 1900 city directory, probably worked for all three attorneys. Albert Zimmerman later became a Dane County and Circuit Court judge. Jennie Nelson became the secretary to Governor La Follette. |
