Rendering of a Thordarson Electical Manufacturing Company product. Chester Thordarson was a Chicago inventor and manufacturer of electical apparatus, famous for inventing the electrical transformer in 1904. He was also known for his bequest of what was the core of the UW-Madison rare book collection and his estate on Rock Island in Door County. This item is from the Thordarson Electric Company Electrical Laboratory and Demonstration Apparatus catalog. It is described as "induction coils for laboratory use...sealed in a carefully constructed hard rubber covering and are vacuum impregnated....Finished in walnut and black." |
