On the Trip to the Mammoth Cave

Hölzlhuber journeyed from Chicago to Louisville, Kentucky, and from there took a train south to Cave City, from which passengers boarded a stagecoach for the ten miles to Mammoth Cave. In the background is drawn the Mammoth Cave Hotel on the Green River, where he stayed for the night before exploring the cave itself. Taken from Hölzlhuber's description of the scene, translated by Vera Kroner. |
