Surrender of Albert Parsons
A photograph of a painting depicting the surrender of Albert Parsons to Cook County Illinois authories. Parsons had been arrested in connection with a confrontation between striking workers and police in Chicago's Haymarket Square. Workers had gathered to protest the killing of two unionized McCormick reaper factory workers during a confrontation with strike breakers the previous day. Later in the evening, police marched into the square and ordered the crowed to disperse. A riot erupted after someone threw a dynamite bomb that killed and wounded several police officers and civilians. |
