ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Attached to canvas back is the handwritten note, stating : "On Sept. 23rd 1813 My Father/ and family and Grandparents/ moved into this then new house/ They moved out of the log house/ in which they had lived ten years/ the Second house built in Irasburg/ Vt. in which three children were born/ and seven more were born in this house/ being my birthplace SD Conant." This S.D. Conant has been identified as Samuel Davis Conant, born to Samuel Conant and Sally Richardson Conant in Irasburg, VT on November 20, 1820. S.D. Conant married Louisa Ann Pearson in Irasburg in 1848 and moved to Janesville, Wisconsin, where he was a merchant at the time. Frederick Odell Conant's genealogy of the Conant family was published in 1887. Conant died in 1913.
