Second and Third Capitols and Wisconsin Avenue
A view looking south down Wisconsin Avenue toward the Capitol Square where portions of the second and third Wisconsin State Capitols are visible. This perspective provides a better view of the odd appearance that the two Wisconsin Capitols made at the time, with the old Capitol, on the right, facing State Street, and the East Wing of the larger, new Capitol behind it, facing King Street. Other prominent buildings include, from the left, Bacon's Block, the Presbyterian Church, and on the right Madison City Hall at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and West Mifflin Street. |
