Taken from an engraving produced in 1853, this was printed in the Milwaukee Sentinel in 1937 in commemoration of the paper's 100th year of publication. The original engraving was made only 7 years after Milwaukee became a city, and 5 years after Wisconsin became a state. The population of Milwaukee was 25,000 at the time.
