Jesse Smith Trial

Trial of Madison Police Dept. Desk Sargent Jesse M. Smith, accused of non-payment of a $191 bill which his ex-wife incurred at the Dean clinic. This was held before the Board of Police and Fire commissioners. In the lower left, his back to the camera, is City Attorney Theodore G. Lewis who acted as prosecuting attorney. Seated at the table, and to the left of Mr. Lewis are Police Chief William H. McCormick, Dr. William F. Lorenz, and Sec. Joseph H. Brown. The woman in the background, near Brown, is Mary Grane, clerk of circuit court. Next in order is George F. O'Connell, commission president. Marjorie Johnson is in the upper right. To her left, only partially visible, is the shorthand reporter. Next is Commissioner George Sayle. The man in the immediate foreground is a newspaper reporter. |
