William Pollock
Quarter-lenth portrait of William Pollock, a long-standing union official. Pollock was business agent for United Textile Workers (UTW) Local 25 from 1931-1937, when he became manager of the Textile Joint Board, following UTW's merger with the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO). When the textile unions combined to form the Textile Workers Union of American (TWUA) in 1939, he became the new union's general secretary-treasurer. He kept that role until 1953, when he became executive vice president. When Emil Rieve stepped down as president in 1956, Pollock was elected president. He was reelected to that post until 1972. |
