Oscar Altpeter
Vignetted quarter-length semi-profile carte-de-visite portrait of Oscar Altpeter, a maltster and Democratic politician. Altpeter was the son of Phillip Altpeter, who founded Northwestern Brewery. Oscar was alderman for the 6th ward of Milwaukee (1885-1889). He was a state senator from 1892-1896, then returned to Milwaukee politics as an alderman at large from 1901-1906 and 1912-1916. He founded the short-lived Oscar Altpeter Brewery, was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Milwaukee Public Museum, and was a founder of the English Lutheran Church of the Reformation. |
