Full-length portrait of Potawatomi chief Simon Kahquados, born Kakanisaiga. He is depicted in his peace council attire. Caption reads: "A POTAWATOMI CHIEF. The legend in the mythology of the Potawatomi, that they are the 'Guardians of the Sacred Fire' by 'Divine command received from above,' from which their name is derived, is beautifully portrayed by Mrs. John P. Shiells [Blanche Cummings] in the painting (from which this is copied) Simon Kahquados, descendant of a long line of Potawatomi chiefs and spokesman of the Wisconsin band as model,—from which this Process Color Plate was produced by the Menasha Printing & Carton Co., of Menasha, Wisconsin.
