Brigadier General Barton Stone Alexander
Full-length portrait of Barton Stone Alexander, an architect, engineer, and United States Army officer. He held the rank of Lieutenant colonel in the Union Army during the Civil War, and was made brevet brigadier general in 1866. In 1867, he was ordered to the West Coast to serve as chief U.S. Army engineer for the region. He oversaw numerous projects to improve ports and oceanside communities. |
