English Lutheran Church
Text on front reads: "English Lutheran Church, Whitewater, Wis." A limestone church built in the Romanesque Revival style, surrounded by trees, lawns, sidewalks, shrubs and flowers. It is listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places. From the Property Record on the Wisconsin Historical Society website: "This church was officially organized in 1858. Services were held in various places such as Bower's Hall, a school house in Library Park, and in the East Side School. In 1869, after the Norwegian congregation was organized, a small white church was built on Cravath Street (Ole Bull Park). Masses were held here until 1908, when the current First English Lutheran Church was bought from the Baptists. This church was built in 1886." |
