Duluth Superior Lift Bridge
Text on reverse reads: "G-1–Ore Boat Leaving Duluth-Superior Harbor, Lift Bridge Raised. Giant lake freighters leave Duluth-Superior Harbor, the world's largest fresh-water port, and pass beneath Duluth's 'trade-mark,' the Aerial Lift Bridge spanning the entrance to the ship canal. The navigation season extends approximately from April 15th to December 15th, or eight months, to make the harbor second to that of New York in annual shipping tonnage which consists mainly of iron ore, coal, grain and cement." A steamship entering the harbor under the Aerial Lift Bridge, completed in 1905. It was remodeled and reopened in 1930. A row of lampposts light the pier, with a beacon or lighthouse in the distance. Buildings are on the right with hills in the background. |
