Mary Livingston Griggs on Boathouse Second Story Deck
Mary Livingston Griggs, dressed in a black dress and coat and using a cane, is standing on the second story outside deck of the Forest Lodge Boathouse on Lake Namakagon, next to a green canvas and aluminum chaise-lounge. A younger blonde woman wearing a beige coat and dress is standing behind the chaise-lounge. The boathouse windows have blue-stripped canvas awnings; a pipe railing encircles the deck. |

Forest Lodge on Lake Namakagon was originally the Northern Wisconsin Lumber Company. In 1902 Crawford Livingston purchased 100 acres of the lake shore property for hunting and vacation purposes. Crawford Livingston’s daughter Mary Livingston Griggs and granddaughter Mary Griggs Burke continued to maintain and expand the property until Mary Burke’s death in 2012 when all 872 acres of Forest Lodge were entirely gifted to the U.S. Forest Service. |
