From Rags to Rugs
A woman is using a sewing machine on a collection of scrap fabric. Caption reads: "FROM RAGS TO RUGS Our generation of grandparents make advancing age an opportunity for doing a lot of things they never had the time for previously. Mrs. Charles [Margaret Elizabet Mulheron] Fedderly of Elmwood braids rags which she finds 'a good substitute for knitting.' She finds that the most interesting aspect of this hobby is the many places the rags come from. A gift of drapes from St. Joseph's hospital, St. Paul, started Mrs. Fedderly on her new occupation about two years ago. Drapes from a California restaurant, sent by a daughter, went into other rugs. Another daughter in Illinois sent 14 cafe uniforms. Mrs. Fedderly also receives material from friends and neighbors and is 'always waiting to see what the next bunch will look like.' Mrs. Fedderly is 'busy every minute,' a statement which is understandable when she explains that there is close to 400 yards of braid in an average carpet." |
