Newsletter Photo Souvenir
Front page of the fake, humorous newsletter titled Dells Events. The front page includes a color picture of a man (John Trumble) wearing a straw-brimmed hat, holding a bamboo fishing rod, and standing on a dock next to his prized catch - a muskie that is longer than he is tall! The image is part of a fictional news story about "a fantastic event captured on film" and is surrounded by articles that refer to Dells tourism and attractions. The back page can be seen in image ID: 145248 and shows a mugshot of Black Bart as "Wanted" beneath a story about his train robbery at Fort Dells and a cheeky ad for the Wood Tick Inn. The newsletter is a two-fold mailer designed to frame the photograph, and the mailer also serves as an advertisement and order form for reprints. It was created by Dells Photo Service, owned and operated by John Trumble. He made the fishing scene as a fun background for portrait customers visiting his studio and "pitcher gallery" at Fort Dells. It shows a lake harbor view with lighthouse and sail boat. This souvenir with the photographer's picture is a sample. |
