Kiwanis Honors 4-H Club Members' Achievements
As guests of the Kiwanis, over 200 boys and girls from Manitowoc County 4-H Clubs and their leaders attend the annual achievement day banquet at the Catholic Community Center located at 902-904 York Street. More than sixty Kiwanians hosted the celebration and are seated among their guests. After a talk by Judge Henry Graass of Green Bay, achievement pins decorated with a 4-H clover emblem were presented to each youngster by Kiwanian Harvey Weavers, Manitowoc County Agricultural Agent. The September 28, 1931 edition of the Manitowoc Herald News stated, in regard to the awards, "Requirements for the receiving of a citation are that persons enrolled in sewing clubs complete at least five projects, two of which must have been exhibited at the county fair while those enrolled in the calf and pig clubs show satisfactory record books kept over a period of at least three months." The pins were gifts of the Manitowoc County Bankers' Association, which helped sponsor and develop the 4-H Club organization and its work. The photo appeared in the October 1st, 1931 edition of the Manitowoc Herald News. The September 29th edition of the paper gives a complete list of 4-H members who were honored. |

The building was constructed in 1920 by the Knights of Columbus. In 1929 it was purchased by The Catholic Center of Manitowoc. It was leased to Fred Brick and Charles Tadych in 1941 and was renamed the Brita Center, which was a combination of letters from the partners' last names. The property was purchased in 1944 by the Otto Oas Post No. 659 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was then known as the Veterans' Club. Manitowoc Herald News, 1919-1931.
