North Chicago Rolling Mills at Bay View
Illustration of the rolling mills, with text below that reads: "On the morning of May 4th, 3,000 strikers marched on the rolling mills of Bay View. Governor Rusk hurriedly sent out the militia. While entering the plant, they were stoned by the mob. They turned and fired in the air to scare the mob. The mob remained at the mill all day, but offered no violence. The next morning they returned. When they did not obey the militia order to halt, the militia fired into the mob, killing and wounding about 10 persons. This ended the rioting." |
