Text on back of print in M2005-096, Box 17, Folder 9 reads: "Arville Schaleben of The Milwaukee Journal photographing three children of the Matanuska valley pioneers. The children are sitting on a log which became part of the mud sill on which early colonist log cabins were built from timber hewn from the 40-acre largely uncleared tracts assigned to the 200 families who established the first colony ever sponsored by the U.S." Stamp on back reads: "Photographed By Will Geisman." |
