Two Christian Missionaries with Airplane Atop a Car
Two men are examining a disassembled airplane attached to the roof of an automobile. The airplane belonged to the Rev. Millard Kirkpatrick, right, missionary in the Hawaiian Islands who spent the day visiting his friend, the Rev. T.E. Crane, left, pastor of the Madison Gospel Tabernacle. The plane was a Piper Vagabond. The car carrying the plane on it's roof was an American Motors Rambler sedan. Kirkpatrick, traveling from Buffalo, N.Y. to the West Coast, decided it would be less hazardous to drive over the mountains instead of flying the small plane in November. Kirkpatrick intended to ship the plane to Hawaii where he would use it to fly among seven islands and carry on his missionary work. |
