Doug DeWitt at the Drums
Doug DeWitt is sitting behind the drums. The words "Rhythm Wreckers" are printed on the drum face. Behind Doug DeWitt, on a shelf, are several things: a record player, records, a copy of "The R.P.I. Engineer," and a military portrait. To the right are Doug DeWitt's parents Eleanor Holt DeWitt and Donald S. DeWitt, who is holding "Sailing to Win" by Robert N. Bavier. Robert (Bobby) DeWitt is playing with a wooden toy, on the far right. Wood paneling and a window are in the background. |

R.P.I. is Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. According to Terry DeWitt, "The photo of the young man playing the drums with elders is my dad, Doug DeWitt. The younger boy in the photo is uncle Robert DeWitt." Terry DeWitt estimates that Doug is 15 and Bobby is 6 in the picture, which dates the year of the photo to be the early 1940s. Terry DeWitt recognizes the house as 567 Main Street in Oconto, Wisconsin. Donald S. DeWitt was a graduate of the Michigan College of Mines at Houghton, Michigan. He designed the Holt sawmill in Oconto. (Source: Holt, Founders p. 76) |
