View of a bridge, with cars parked along the sides, and a "Road Closed" sign in the left foreground. Caption reads: "NEW BRIDGE — Work on the Falls Rd. bridge over the Milwaukee River at Grafton is almost finished, and the bridge is expected to open as scheduled on July 1. The 192-foot steel bridge spans the river from a point just north of Vienna Ct. on the west side to Falls Rd. near 16th Ave. on the east. Construction was supervised by the Lunda Construction Co. of Black River Falls. The federal government will pay 75% of the estimated cost of $1,151,273, and the village will pay the other 25%. A court fight between the government and the Falls Rd. Impact Committee, a citizen group that opposed the bridge project, stalled it for more than a year and a half." |
