Building the Pulpit — Part 1

Building the Pulpit — Part 1 | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
An action shot of two sawyers cutting a hollow hemlock log using a 2-person crosscut saw. They are sawing halfway through the log, to create an angle which will be surfaced with birch branches, offering a shelf for the speaker to put water, eye glasses, sermon text, notes, and/or a Bible. Young David Rumsey, bathed in sun, is watching the sawing. Part of a series captioned: "Building the Pulpit." This pulpit will be used for the Sunday morning Presbyterian worship on the porch at Island Lodge on Archibald Lake.
