Mid-Century Modern Home Interior
Interior view of a mid-century modern home showing the split-level design and prominent architectural elements of the style. The sprawling open floor plan of the upper level is laterally divided by a stone column and cabinet, and includes a dining area (back left), a living room (to the far right) and a grand piano in the center. A prominent strip of windows that show a stand of trees illuminate the background with natural light that shines off the stained and highly polished stone floor. A stone wall in the foreground demarcates a stairway to the lower level, where a small round table, couch and rug are visible. The home was built in 1963 and designed by the architect, Paul A. Thomas III, who taught in the Architecture and City and Regional Planning program at Illinois Institute of Technology. Ken Harley was the original owner from 1963 to 1975. |
