UD-24 — Irrigation
Subject: "UD-24 — Irrigation." Where Taken: "SW." Information with photograph reads: "Owned by Carl Lane, Klamath Falls, Oregon who owns a 960-acre farm near Casa Grande, Ariz. which is operated by C.R. Sturgeon. The UD-24 diesel power unit has taken the place of a 125-hp. motor which had to be disconnected because drouths had caused a shortage of hydraulically produced power. It is connected by 6 V-belts to a Peerless turbine pump. Water is taken from a well 600 feet deep with a lift of 180 feet and is pumped at the rate of 2300 to 2400 gals. per min., 24 hrs. a day, sufficient to irrigate 400 acres. The casing of the well is 20 inches in diameter and water is delivered thru an 18-in. outlet pipe. With the present Diesel operation ninety 2-inch syphon hoses are used as agaist seventy with the former electric operation. It takes approx. 9 gals. of Diesel fuel per hr. to operate the outfit. The UD-24 is portable and can be transported to any place where needed. It has 6 cylinders equipped with radiator fan clutch and power take-off develops 180 hp. at 1375 r.p.m." |
