William Pettigrew Holding Ax and Hammer | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
William Pettigrew, who was Foreman at Camp Four for sometime beginning in 1885, is holding a double headed ax in his right hand and a hammer in his left hand. There is a crosscut hand saw leaning against the wooden bench. The back of the bench is made with birch logs. Lillian Wheeler is perching in the corner of the bench. This location is probably near the Ark cottage. Trees and plants are in the background. Caption reads: "William Pettigrew."

The Wheeler frame house on the Island at Archibald Lake was commissioned by Anna Holt Wheeler, the sister of W.A. Holt. This house was known as the Ark. "When it was first built it stood on the waters edge, and this, plus some Biblical imagination, gave it its name." Source: Holt, Constance W. & Holt Jr., Donald R.(1968). "Place Names." This unpublished manuscript is part of Holt Family Albums collection. Arthur H. Pettigrew, possibly a relative of William Pettigrew, was Secretary of Holt Lumber Company for many years.
