Anna Holt Wheeler and Guests on the Porch at the Ark Cottage
A small group is gathered on the porch of the Ark cottage in the daytime. Looking at the camera, a young woman, possibly Rose or Agnes Wilson, is sitting in a rocking chair. Sitting on the fringed hammock, Anna Holt Wheeler is doing some handicraft. By the table, Lillian Wheeler and a woman, possibly Rose or Agnes Wilson, are reading a book together. Caption reads: "Rose and Agnes Wilson at the Ark." |

The Wheeler frame house on the Island at Archibald Lake was commissioned by Anna Holt Wheeler, the sister of W.A. Holt. This house was known as the Ark. "When it was first built it stood on the waters edge, and this, plus some Biblical imagination, gave it its name." Source: Holt, Constance W. & Holt Jr., Donald R.(1968). "Place Names." This unpublished manuscript is part of Holt Family Albums collection. |
