Lillian Wheeler with Fruit on Pier at Archibald Lake
View from shoreline towards a girl, possibly Lillian Wheeler, standing on the pier at the Ark cottage on a sunny day. She is holding up some fruit and is wearing a dress, a bow in her hair. In front of her are three propped up wooden baskets filled with more fruit. There are two more wooden baskets filled with fruit next to her, and behind those baskets is some foliage. In the background is Archibald Lake and the wooded shoreline. |

The Wheeler frame house on the Island at Archibald Lake was commissioned by Anna Holt Wheeler, the sister of W.A. Holt. This house was known as the Ark. "When it was first built it stood on the waters edge, and this, plus some Biblical imagination, gave it its name." Source: Holt, Constance W. & Holt Jr., Donald R.(1968). "Place Names." This unpublished manuscript is part of Holt Family Albums collection. |
