According to Shan Holt, great granddaughter of Lucy Holt, in August 2018, "Among lumberjacks, the 'toppers' were the most skilled and most endangered. Their job was the climb these tall trees and saw off the tops, and branches on the way up. These tall trunks could be used as spars to lift other logs into the river." |
