Island Lodge, Green Cottage, and the Ark Cottage
View from shoreline across Archibald Lake, looking north toward the Island. There is a view, from left to right, of three houses: Island Lodge, Green Cottage and the Wheeler Frame House, also known as The Ark. Hidden among the trees, only the Island Lodge roof can be seen. Green Cottage is barely visible. The Ark cottage, built close to the shoreline, can be seen among trees. |

The Wheeler frame house on the Island at Archibald Lake was commissioned by Anna Holt Wheeler, the sister of W.A. Holt. This house was known as the Ark. "When it was first built it stood on the waters edge, and this, plus some Biblical imagination, gave it its name." Source: Holt, Constance W. & Holt Jr., Donald R.(1968). "Place Names." This unpublished manuscript is part of Holt Family Albums collection. Adjacent to Island Lodge, Green Cottage was the house where some household employees lived. This cottage was built in 1901.
