Sorority Ban Protest

A long, orderly line of student sorority and fraternity members carrying umbrellas and marching in pairs to protest the decision to ban the Delta Gamma sorority from the UW-Madison campus. Protestors walked up "Fraternity Row" on Langdon Street, up Bascom Hill, past Bascom Hall where they were met by Dean of Students, LeRoy Luberg, who was presented with a protest resolution by Robert Jennings, President of the Wisconsin Intrafraternity Association. The group of about 2,000 then walked back down the hill and back to Langdon Street. The decision to ban the sorority came after national sorority suspended the Beloit chapter for pledging Patricia Hamilton, an African-American woman from Madison. The group is seen here nearing Bascom Hall with North Hall in the background. |
