John A. Glander, Artist Photographer | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
Three-quarter length portrait of John A. Glander in his artist's smock retouching a large photograph of a band. Mr. Glander was, for the most part, a self-made artist photographer in his mastery of the use of camera and lighting, processing negative films, printing positive images and retouching of films and prints. As a color artist, he retouched portraits with some oil paint but preferred water color. He studied paintings and artists with great interest and, in his early years, palmistry was an avocation. He was especially concerned with posing hands gracefully in portraiture. When not occupied with photography, music and art were primary interests.
