Trainload of Logs
Several men are posing among logs on the ground near a train engine, which has continuous track (caterpillar) wheels and is pulling a load of logs on sledges. There is a man standing in the doorway of the locomotive, and a man, the steersman, is sitting on the front of the engine behind a steering wheel above the sled tracks. Another man is standing on the stack of logs chained together behind the engine. There is a total of about nine sledges behind the engine. In the right foreground is a log that has a mark that has been darkened on the photograph. Caption reads: "Early step in modernization. 'Cat' [A cat, or caterpillar, train] rolls horse & ox for hauling job. This bark-mark [arrow pointing to aforementioned mark] may be a clue to date and name of this later day [sic] operation." |
