21" and 24" Gisholt Lathes at Willys-Overland Motor Company
View of 21" and 24" lathes on the Willys-Overland Motor Company factory floor. These lathes machined rear axle parts, which are piled at each work station. The lathes are arranged end-to-end, and are attached to rotary belts which are suspended from the ceiling. Natural light is flooding the room from the factory windows. The original envelope housing this photograph was inscribed with the following information: "Showing Gisholt Department of 9-21" Gisholt lathes and 1-24" Gisholt lathe. Since this picture was taken 4 more 21" Gisholt lathes have been installed in this department." |
