The original envelope housing this photograph was inscribed with the following information: "Showing special jaws for holding piece, the lower jaw is solid, the upper jaw has a convex bearing between the 4 set screws which are in a plate that is held to the upper jaw with a screw and small spring, the 4 set screws next to the chuck are adjusted and held in position with set screws, the 4 front set screws are adjusted for each piece."
DESCRIPTION

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This image is one of three in a set showing the 28" Old type turret used at the Packard Motor Car Company in the Gisholt Machine Collection. The other two can be seen as following: one as Image ID: 133336; and second as WHS archive file M2017-013.3.4. Further envelope information on this series states: that the material used was cast steel and there were two operations. "First operation - chucked in combination jaws, trued up by outside diameter of large end with trueing device. Rough bore minimum average time 5 minutes per piece. The piece is then straightened by blacksmith. "Second operation - chuck with combination jaws, true up inside of large bor with centering device. Rough and finish bore and face for 6" x 14 tap, cut 1/4" relief at bottom for tap. Rough and finish bore and ream 2 31/32" x 5" bore. Rough and finish tap 6" x 14 x 1 5/16" deep. Floor to floor time 12 1/2 minute. Average time 16 minutes. Limits .002"."
