Comet Engine Cutaway View with Female Model
3-D cutaway view of the mechanical substructure and configuration of a Comet aircraft engine showcased with a female model. The engine is partially encased in a rectangular frame that replicates the crankcase. A cylinder and its two valves jut out at the top and the cam and pistons are housed in the frame. A propeller shaft protrudes from the side of crankcase. The model is wearing a 1920s black, long-sleeved dress with silk or satin sleeves and skirt, drop waist and embellishments. She is also wearing a beaded necklace, and with her hair loosely styled in Marcel waves. |

This image is one of forty-nine photographs in this Gisholt Machine Company collection documenting the Comet Engine Corporation. It is one of three in this series with the female model. The other two can be seen in WHS archive files M2017-013.2.40 and .41. Gisholt Machine Company purchased the the Comet factory in Oakland, California and moved it to Madison, Wisconsin in 1929. |
