Glander Art Studio, Exterior

View of the recently opened Glander Art Studio at 822 Washington Street. The Glander Building was constructed in 1914 by John A. Glander, a local photographer, to accommodate his growing business. Located on the northeast corner of S. 9th and Washington Streets, the building's showcase windows line its west and south facades. The two-story brick structure features contrasting brick patterns with inlaid stone squares to accentuate the windows, fascia sign bands, cornice and roofline. The first floor served as an art store for the display and sale of pictures, frames, art and giftware. The second floor housed the photography studio and workrooms for the manufacture of picture frames. The Glander Building was designed in the Twentieth Century Commercial style by architects Raeuber & Mehner. |
