Tonyawatha Spring Hotel
View along the Lake Monona shoreline towards the Tonyawatha Spring Hotel. A crowd of people are standing on the pier with several sailboats. On the shore is a boathouse. In the lower left is someone paddling a canoe. The hotel, on the east shore of the lake, was located in Blooming Grove Township, just outside of Madison. The hotel opened in 1879. On July 31, 1895, the hotel was destroyed by a fire. |

Handwritten on the reverse is the name "Ainsworth." Henry "Bertie" Burton Ainsworth (Born 9-3-1866) was a steamer pilot on Lake Monona and worked for Captain Frank Barnes, owner of a line of excursion boats. See also Image ID: 123801. |
