Jamie Baertsch, Wisconsin's first female brewmaster (left) and Teri Fahrendorf (right), founder of the Pink Boots Society, in front of the brew kettles at the Wisconsin Dells Brewing Co. in 2006. Fahrendorf, a Portland, Oregon brewmaster and Wisconsin native, visited Baertsch at the Wisconsin Dells Brewing Co., and by coincidence, they were both wearing pink boots that day. Fahrendorf and Baertsch founded the Pink Boots Society in 2007 to provide training and career support for women in the brewing industry. Since its founding, the Society has established chapters across North America and in foreign countries including New Zealand, Australia, Chile, Spain, and Hong Kong. The group presents conferences and seminars and provides scholarships for more advanced training. |
