Francis Townsend Rally in Wausau

Several men are sitting on a raised platform with an awning overhead, and a banner along the front that reads: "Welcome Dr. Townsend." One man is speaking into a microphone and several men standing on the left are listening. On stage, Dr. Francis Townsend the fourth man to the right of the speaker. Dr. Townsend originated the "Townsend Plan," which would guarantee a monthly pension to all retired persons age 60 or older. His plan was a precursor to the Social Security system. |
