Building a Raceway
Men are working on a project at the State Fish Hatchery. There is new concrete lining a raceway in the foreground, where a man is working on the floor. Wooden forms are lined up in a wide area of the ditch, and in the background other men are working on the dirt walls. Mature trees are lining the banks, and there is snow and ice mixed with the excavated dirt. A description on the reverse of the photograph explains: "Construction of a new raceway on a WPA project at the fish hatchery in Salmo will increase the capacity of the hatchery for game fish rearing. It is estimated that WPA improvements on hatcheries throughout the state will result in an increased annual output of at least a quarter of a billion fish to be planted in Wisconsin's lakes and streams." |
