Holy Family Hospital, Water Cure Department

Holy Family Hospital, Water Cure Department | Book or Pamphlet | Wisconsin Historical Society
View of one of the Water Cure Department's rooms furnished with a large porcelain bath tub, marble table and sitz or hip bath. An apparatus for water regulation is mounted on the marble-lined wall with a shelf, above, holding hose nozzles and a timer or small clock. A telephone is mounted on the wall next to a wooden door frame. On the right is a marble wall partition with four curved bars dividing what is probably the site of vertical and horizontal showers from the rest of the room. Areas of the cement floor have a drainable covering, possibly made of rubber. The following is quoted from the hospital's 1902 patient booklet: "The Hydrotherapeutic (Water Cure) Department is a feature to which we desire to call special attention. It is located in the basement, and is equipped with all the modern appliances, affording ample facilities for the application of the various forms of Hydrotherapy. Hot baths, steam cabinets, and Turkish baths are provided with the very best modern equipment. Trained and experienced attendants are in charge for both men and women. Massage treatments are administered according to the famous German method."
