Holy Family Hospital, Chapel

Holy Family Hospital, Chapel | Book or Pamphlet | Wisconsin Historical Society
Gothic arches frame the intricately designed and decorated altar of the Sacred Heart chapel. Across the front of the high altar, from left to right, are statues of St. Anthony of Padua, a Franciscan Saint who is very special to the Franciscan Order, the Blessed Virgin Mary with a crown of stars around her head, a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, St. Joseph holding the child Jesus, and on the right is St. Francis holding a crucifix. The larger statue to the left of the altar is Mary holding the Infant Jesus, and on the right is the Infant of Prague. Eleven angels in the painting above hold a banner reading "Venite adoremus"; Come let us adore. Three Latin words above the angels are, possibly: "Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus"; Holy, Holy, Holy. The descending curling banner starting on the left side reads, in English: "Come to me all you who are burdened," and continues on the right with "and I will refresh you." In the foreground are front pews, potted ferns and an open communion rail. The chapel's location was on the second floor, above the parlor, on the west side of the building and was for the use of hospital patrons and employees.
Description provided by the Sisters of Holy Family Convent, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, O.S.F.
