Wisconsin State Capitol "Resources of Wisconsin" Mural
Three men working on the "Resources of Wisconsin" mural. The "Resources of Wisconsin mural" painting is located 250 feet above the ground level of the Wisconsin State Capitol. It covers a space in the eye of the dome that is equal to the size of the rotunda floor within the railing... 34 feet in diameter. To accommodate to the bowl shaped ceiling space, Edwin Blashfield, the artist, built a bowl, 7 feet in diameter. He then he painted smaller cutouts of various parts of the painting such as heads or arms which he arranged rather like a jigsaw puzzle until he got the effect he wanted. Then he worked it out full sized from this model. |
