Mrs. Rebecca Wyatt
A woman, Mrs. Rebecca Wyatt, is walking along a sidewalk. She is the first black school teacher in Cassville. Mrs. Wyatt moved to Wisconsin from Paris, Tennessee; she was hired as a commercial teacher for the local high school. As reported in the paper at the time, the school district did not know prior to her arrival that she was not white. She was welcomed warmly, however, especially after the community learned that her husband was stationed with an Army engineer unit in Korea. |
