Old Wade House; Kitchen
Ektachrome postcard of the kitchen. A woman wearing period clothing is sitting by a spinning wheel near the woodstove and fireplace. Text on reverse reads: "The Kitchen contains the only fireplace in Wade House. Sylvanus Wade wanted to 'go modern' and install stoves throughout, but Betsy insisted on a fireplace in her kitchen. Here the food was prepared for the hungry travelers and the Wades' own large family. Over the mantle are the guns used to bring home game for the inn's table." |
