Muir Locust

Workers strain to move a heavy limb which has been cut from the large black locust tree which grew along Observatory Drive on the University of Wisconsin campus. A flatbed truck is parked on the street. There is a large split in the trunk, and a broken limb in the crown. Cables can be seen between several branches. The tree was known as the Muir Locust because of its association with the naturalist John Muir from his days as a student at the university. It was judged to be weakened and dangerous and so was removed. |
