Champion American Elm
A towering specimen of Ulmus americana standing along the river in the Menomonee River Parkway. There are large blocks of ice on the shore. This tree was at one time judged to be the largest of the species in Wisconsin, standing 145 feet tall and measuring 21 feet 2 inches in circumference. It died of Dutch elm disease shortly after this photograph was taken. |
