Ceremonial Group Dance
Slightly elevated view of Ho Chunk performing at the Stand Rock Indian Ceremonial at night. A group of men and women are dancing in a pattern, wearing Native American ceremonial clothing. In the foreground five men are drumming. On the right sitting on bleachers are spectators. In the background are two tipis, trees, a rock formation and spectator seating. Behind the tipis is a building. During its 78-year run (1919 to 1997) the Stand Rock Indian Ceremonial provided viewers a small glimpse into the ceremonies and dances performed by the Winnebago, Sioux, Kiowa and southwestern Native American tribes. |
